While it is true when adopting an adult the puppy phase is over, and house training is complete. The needed commitment when adopting an adult is just as much as that of a puppy, it is just a different kind of work. You have to be patient and work towards a bond and trusting relationship with any adult dog while setting up CLEAR boundaries. Most have been through a hard transition time of loosing their home and need boundaries balanced with time spent building trust.
